So I finally went to see Rise of the Guardians.
To be perfectly, bluntly honest, I am meh towards it. I could see kids enjoying it, but it just didn’t have enough for me.
I like the concept, I like the visuals, but I feel like it fell flat in a lot of areas (I haven’t thought about it enough to pinpoint exactly where (which is, itself, a sign) but I suspect it’s in the script. The plot mechanics were confusing and had some pretty big holes in them, a lot of the dialogue was lacklustre, and (potentially as a result) the characters were kind of just caricatures of themselves).
I didn’t emotionally engage with it at any point.
I liked the yetis, though. Especially the one. He was cool.
Also, if I could just vent on a nitpick that was driving me insane in the entire last half of the movie. At least half of those kids didn’t have any god damned shoes on. I’m sorry, but no. That is ice. That is fucking ice.
Put your fucking shoes on.
So yeah. I laughed at a few parts, and it’s definitely some pretty shit, but ultimately meh.
